Frequently asked questions

Providing award-winning clothing alterations and repairs since 2000 from a welcoming home-based studio, Laura Searle ensures every garment receives personal care and meticulous attention to detail.

How many fittings are usually required?

Most formal wear and bridal garments typically require 2 to 3 fittings to guarantee the perfect fit, while simpler everyday garments often only require one or two visits.

When should I begin alterations for my wedding dress or formal gown?

It is best to start alterations approximately 8 to 10 weeks out from your wedding or special event to allow ample time for precise adjustments and multiple fittings.

What should I bring to my fitting appointment?

Please bring the garment itself, the exact shoes you plan to wear (to set the correct hem length), and the specific underwear or shapewear you will use on the day to check the overall silhouette.

Can I receive a quote online or over the phone?

Yes, you are very welcome to send through a clear photograph of your outfit along with details of what needs to be altered or repaired, and an initial quote can be provided for you.

Do you accommodate last-minute or emergency alterations?

If possible, last-minute alterations and rush requests can be accommodated. Just let Laura know your required event date, and she will work with you to meet your deadline whenever feasible.

What types of garments can you alter or repair?

From taking up everyday jeans and trousers to complete restyling, mending tears, and customising couture bridal and bridesmaid gowns, all types of garments and repairs are handled with expert care.

Where are fittings held?

All fittings take place at Laura's comfortable, private home-based studio located in Athelstone, Adelaide, offering a relaxed and personalised one-on-one service.
